Happy Tuesday evening

Me: swimming at the Ledges
I don’t have time to write much, but Tuesday was too lovely not to get at least a quick summary. Showed up at the Diesel, and I didn’t stay long, but I stayed long enough to catch brief sightings of the elusive and marvellous wispfox and the slightly less elusive but no less marvellous zzbottom. I would have loved to hang out more with wispfox and eisa, but I already had dinner plans: cathijosephine, [mrpet, who didn’t yet have a journal when I posted this], and I went to the Helmand, a wonderful Afghani restaurant a couple blocks from the Cambridgeside Galleria and probably one of my five favourite restaurants in the Boston area. Yum! I had their yummy pumpkin appetizer (kaddo) and lamb kebab which was exquisitely spiced. Then we went to ragingamazon’s and got to look at her impressive snake photos. She drove us back to Davis Square (it was close to 11:30 by then) and I drove sweet sleepy cathijosephine home. A delightful evening.

PS – On the way back from dropping cathijosephine off, I noticed that the Citgo sign in Kenmore has been restored! All the neon tubes light up now, and they even flash on and off in the right order. That’s kind of cool, but weird!

I had no idea it was a chain. For reference, what’s the name of the one in Baltimore? Does it have the same welcoming living-room feel to the interior? Does it have the same pictures of earnest young (anti-Soviet) mujahedin with guns on the walls? (OK, I realize readers are going to have a hard time reconciling those last two sentences. :-)

I really enjoyed the Helmand. They have a great selection of vegetarian food, which is nice, if you care about those sorts of things.

This looks like the home page for the Helmand in Baltimore, but there is no mention of other locations on the site. It seems like there is also a Helmand in San Francisco...

I wonder what "Helmand" means in Afghani? It could all be an incredible coincedence... :)

I think it's a region in Afghanistan, but I'm not sure.

Ah yes. And here. Perhaps the region is famous for its food.
