So a few months ago I read Stiff: The Curious History of Human Cadavers, by the smart, funny, and irreverent Mary Roach. I loved it.

Today, on my way home from dropping [info]plumtreeblossom off at her house, I overheard on NPR that Mary Roach had a new book out about the science of sex. It’s called Bonk.

You can bet I placed an order as soon as I got home.

Don't forget her other book, Spook, an inquiry into the scientific basis of ghosts and the afterlife. I just picked it up, and it's very nifty.

Well, Spook is not my kind of topic, but I love her writing style, so maybe I’ll consider it after I read Bonk.

([info]plumtreeblossom just made me read a book on UFOs and the paranormal. I think I forgive her. She says there was a teeny little nugget in there towards the end that made it all worthwhile. I need to have her point out aforesaid nugget.)

Congratulations on having a perfect userpic!

See, there we differ. That sort of thing is exactly my bailiwick. But I think even someone with little interest in the paranormal might enjoy Spook.

That was [info]cathijosephine who made you read it. I haven't read it. :-)

Oops! Yup, that’s what I meant to type, but my fingers know that when I start typing “<lj user='” it’s usually “plumtreeblossom'>” that follows. :-)
I haven't read it. :-)
And for this you should be supremely grateful, although the nine-word sentence in a footnote [info]cathijosephine wanted me to read it for was in fact mildly amusing.

I liked Spook, but not nearly as much as Stiff. I had the same reaction as [info]beowabbit when I heard about Bonk, though I haven't ordered it yet :)

Stiff is one of my FAVORITE nonfiction books! I recommend it often!!! I also read her book "Spook".

I shall have to purchase Bonk ASAP!!!

What did you think of Spook? [info]scholargipsy recommended it, but that’s not a topic I’m interested in, so it would have to be a pretty good or a pretty amusing book for me to want to read it. (Of course, it’s Mary Roach, so it’s probably both.)

I thought it was OK, but that Stiff was much better.

It was amusing, but a bit "eh".

Sounds good indeed, but sadly the reviews are pretty lousy on bn.com. I look forward to hearing from you whether the reviews are wrong.

Uh, duh, make that one single poor review on BN, and many positive reviews on Amazon.
