Well, in the mail today there came photographic evidence that I do in fact have a brain. I’ll probably post more of these when I get a chance to look through them all, but for now, here’s one picture.

You have a picture of your brain -- how cool is that!

Funny, I would never recognize you from that picture. :-)

So do I!!!

Ok so a little creepy. No make that more than a little creepy....

Don't think I could have picked you out of a line up, but knowing it is you I can see the profile.

You're just trolling for zombies, aren't you?
30th-May-2007 02:50 am (UTC)
I agree with the "recognize your profile, but otherwise wouldn't have known it was you" comment.

Still, sexy brain, mister. *is slightly envious*

Uh, dude, where are your eyes?

This particular image is a section right down the center of my head. That’s why you can see my nose, but not my eyes (they’re to either side of this section). When I pick out a handful of representative images to post, I’ll make sure to include some that show the eyes. Some of the horizontal sections show them particularly well. There’s also a nifty one that shows my tongue and lower teeth as if from above. (I think; actually, come to think of it and thinking about where my tongue is sitting right now, it’s probably the tongue and upper teeth.)

BRRRRRAAAAAIIIINNNNNNSSSSS!

*eats them*

This is seriously cool, sweetie, and I love being able to look at your sexy grey matter. :-)

Also, I love you because the top of your brain stem looks like an embryo. :-)

Awww... I bet you say that to all the boys whose brains you eat!

My, what a big, er, olifactory bulb you have! ;-)
30th-May-2007 04:04 pm (UTC)
All the better to smell you with, my dear!
30th-May-2007 01:40 pm (UTC)
Um, would you mind if I used this picture for my intro bio classes? This shows the sinuses and so many important parts of the brain in such great detail!

Not at all — I’d be kind of tickled, in fact!

If there are any other views you’d particularly want, I’d be happy to dig them out — or I could make the raw images available for you to go through if you like.

There’s one that makes clear what a deviated septum is. (I’m sure nobody’s going to be surprised that something about me is deviant. :-)

I want to see that one!

i had an echocardiogram when i was pregnant so they could look at my heart murmur and make sure i wasn't going to randomly drop dead, but they didn't let me keep the pictures or anything. this is way cool. you should frame it!

I'd like to get a closer look at your larynx; is there any way to zoom in?

Baby.

Well, most of the good sagittal sections were at that resolution. (Actually, there were a few at higher resolution, but they focussed on the pituitary and didn’t include my throat.) But there were a couple at higher resolution, including this one:

Does that help? The original image was a bit garbled; I’ve de-garbled it and enhanced the contrast to focus on the throat rather than the brain. I think it’s fuzzier and grainier than the one I posted above, though, so it may not be an improvement.

Oh, and here’s the same picture I posted above, but with the dimensions doubled by your web browser:

(And I’ll show you my larynx any old time you like, babe.)

(Hmmm... But not with these pictures — looks like the larynx is off the bottom in all of them. None of the scans went further down than that, alas. A bunch of them only went down to my top teeth.)

My soft palate is really puffy, isn’t it? Is that typical of somebody my weight? Subjectively, it feels like it’s blown up in the last couple of years.

Like I said elsewhere, your epiglottis looks relatively small but without seeing it in action, it's hard to tell what it can do.

(yes, we are talking about an epiglottis)

If it *is* too small, then that might allow trace aspiration to happen when you swallow. Such could lead to pneumonia if you aren't otherwise healthy and active, which you certainly are. I'm also wondering if your epiglottis might have been eroded a bit from your GERD.

Do you find that you cough a lot when you eat or when you drink (especially when you drink thin liquids?)
