So, I turn 40 on Saturday the 26th. I’d been meaning to do some big hedonistic thing with Rocks (male Rockettes) jumping out of a cake or something to celebrate, but it’s already the middle of August, so I’m going to fall back on the ever-popular
Birthday dinner at Addis Red Sea
on Friday the 25th. Dinner will be at 7:30. Wanna join me? If you’re on this filter I’d love to see you there!

Please RSVP here or by email. I’ll make a reservation probably the preceeding Wednesday.

(If you want outdated but more intimate information about what Addis is like, check out http://www.aq.org/~js/places/boston/addis/.)

PS — Until I was 30, I had hair past my waist. I am considering shaving my head bald for my 40th (and then growing it out again, maybe long, or maybe just fuzzy if the summers are too bad). No promises, but I thought I’d warn you.

Oo, sounds yummy...but I already have a dinner planned that evening! Happy future birthday. :)
12th-Aug-2006 05:31 pm (UTC)
Tentative yes, pending my confirming that I'm not away that weekend or the like. Yay! *smooch*
14th-Aug-2006 05:33 pm (UTC)
Yay! It’ll be good to see you! (Also, hope you can come over for games that Sunday.)
25th-Aug-2006 06:20 pm (UTC)
I believe I will be there Sunday as well! I do have concert plans Sunday evening with DD so our vague plan is to go to your place and leave in time for that.

And I'll be at dinner tonight -- do you know if anyone else is T-ing from Davis who might want to ride/walk together?
25th-Aug-2006 06:29 pm (UTC)
Awesome!

Well, [info]plumtreeblossom is coming, but she's coming from work. Other than her and you, I don’t think any of the people who’ve RSVPed both live near enough to Davis to be likely to come on the Red Line. Sorry!
12th-Aug-2006 06:00 pm (UTC)
i will come!

can i bring john?
14th-Aug-2006 05:33 pm (UTC)
Excellent! Yes, you can certainly bring John.
14th-Aug-2006 06:27 pm (UTC)
RSVP for two then!
12th-Aug-2006 06:03 pm (UTC)
And early happy birthday, but advance regrets as I will be in LA (where I will raise a glass and toast to your happiness from afar).
14th-Aug-2006 05:34 pm (UTC)
Have fun on the Wrong Coast!
12th-Aug-2006 07:47 pm (UTC)
If you won't jump out of a cake, maybe I will! Count me in. :-)
12th-Aug-2006 09:11 pm (UTC)
You're LESS likely to attend if beowabbit jumps out of a cake? I'd think the humor value of that would encourage attendence. :-)
12th-Aug-2006 09:37 pm (UTC)
Oh no, I'd *love* if he did! But according to his post, he isn't planning to. Maybe we can collectively change his mind. :-)
14th-Aug-2006 05:35 pm (UTC)
Yay! I’m looking forward to it.

Is your userpic for this comment (small dog with blue frisbee) from a picture you took? If so, who’s the dog?
12th-Aug-2006 09:09 pm (UTC)
If my unpredictable health allows, I'll be there. One of my favorite people at one of my favorite restaurants, yay!

Forty, huh? Milestone birthdays often have an effect on people. Any particular effects you notice as this one approaches?
12th-Aug-2006 09:13 pm (UTC)
P. S. -- Let me be the first to raise the topic of birthday spankings. :-)

Desired, not desired, negotiable? :-)

And no, not in the middle of Addis Red Sea; I do have some understanding of decorum. :-)
14th-Aug-2006 05:42 pm (UTC)
Probably not that weekend, at any rate, but at an event on another filter together, spankings are certainly negotiable. (Although I’ve been feeling antsier to give than to receive lately.)
14th-Aug-2006 05:50 pm (UTC)
(Although I’ve been feeling antsier to give than to receive lately.),/i>

I think either could probably fall under the heading of "birthday spankings." :-)
14th-Aug-2006 05:39 pm (UTC)
I sure hope you can make it! Norman’s welcome too, of course, if he wants to come. (Silly boy with no LiveJournal account!)

Not really. It’s reminding me that I really would have loved to have had a 33⅓’th birthday party. Five years till my next opportunity, and then I won’t get another chance until I’m 78!

My experience in turning 40 myself and in watching others do so is that 40 is no problem for people who mostly are where they want to be, doing what they want to do. For people who are dissatisfied with their lives, 40 can be very angsty. But then, a wake-up call every ten years is probably good for people who aren't living the life they need to live. :-)
13th-Aug-2006 02:29 am (UTC)
Yes! And thanks for having a round-number birthday. They seem to be my only excuse for breaking out of the dreary routine and seeing friends lately.
14th-Aug-2006 05:42 pm (UTC)
Excellent! I look forward to seeing you.
13th-Aug-2006 03:50 pm (UTC)
An early Happy 40th to you! I'll be there too soon enough.
14th-Aug-2006 05:42 pm (UTC)
Thank you!
16th-Aug-2006 01:31 am (UTC)
Damn you - we don't get back until the 26th.
Your loss :)
18th-Aug-2006 11:03 pm (UTC)
You don't happen to know whether they're accessible, do you?
19th-Aug-2006 12:47 am (UTC)
Sadly, no. They’re down several steps from the street (and the bathrooms are down a further flight of stairs, and through a very narrow twisty corridor). I’m sorry; I didn’t think of that.
19th-Aug-2006 03:20 am (UTC)
No problem. Have a wonderful time!
21st-Aug-2006 09:11 pm (UTC)
Sign me up for one, please. :)
21st-Aug-2006 09:18 pm (UTC)
Woo-hoo!
23rd-Aug-2006 06:39 pm (UTC)
yay, I made my calendar work so I will totally be there! Happy upcoming birthday!
23rd-Aug-2006 06:49 pm (UTC)
Yay!
23rd-Aug-2006 06:50 pm (UTC)
For my own reference, [info]docorion will also be there.
